For many young Latinos, homelessness doesn’t start in the streets; it begins in their own living rooms. While "familia" is a sacred pillar, 40% of LGBTQ+ youth are "kicked out" due to their identity, and 27% of Latinx LGBTQ+ youth experience homelessness—making them 24% more likely to face housing instability.
This rejection carries a devastating emotional toll, often manifesting as deep-seated anxiety and depression. By leveraging Corridos, a cornerstone of Hispanic culture, and an artist who experienced this trauma firsthand, we challenged the status quo of a traditionally exclusionary genre. In partnership with Universal Music, TransLatin@ Coalition, and LGBTQ Center OC, we transformed this music into a vehicle to humanize the struggle of those who lose everything for their transparency. We proved that music can be a lifeline for those "corridos" from their homes simply for being who they are.
